Hope I'm still a friend. Why this move?
Oct. 13th, 2008 02:17 pm (UTC)
Everyone who I'm currently friends is still a friend. I'm going to make a post soon explaining why I've decided to start f-locking posts containing personal information. It mainly as to do with the realization that over the past two (almost 3 years) I've put a lot of detailed info about myself out there. This never bothered me before but I recently read a very scary article in the Chicago Reader about a truly bizarre internet scam and it's made me realize that I ought to be more careful.

*raises hand* I'm interested! :c)

Never fear, since you're already on my f-list you'll continue to have full access to my journal.
Oct. 15th, 2008 06:14 am (UTC)
just a lurker here periodically, I mean no harm. please friend?
Oct. 15th, 2008 12:57 pm (UTC)
Of course.
Oct. 17th, 2008 04:22 am (UTC)
Hi, another lurker. I love your fanfics, and I read your posts about eating disorders in a broader cultural context with great interest. I feel odd asking you to friend, when there's nothing on my journal that you'd be interested in. But ... please don't make the awesomeness inaccessible?
Oct. 17th, 2008 07:15 pm (UTC)
I've added you as a friend. There's a post here-- http://bitterfig.livejournal.com/155905.html
that explains my decision to f-lock some of my entries. For the record bitterfic, my fan fiction journal, will remain accessible to the public.

Thanks, I did find you through Veleda's journal.

Hi, I just read a Regulus fic of yours which I found to be awesome... I think you did post it quite a while ago but I'd really like to be friends so I can check if you post more fics.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my story. I'll be happy to add you. I should let you know, I don't post any fiction in this journal, it's more about my day to day life, but you're welcome to look it over and see if it's of interest to you. Thanks.

We share an interest in Gravitation. Apparently some posts aren't friendlocked. I've read them and we think very much alike about politics and religion and psychology.

I joined lj specifically to join GMM because I had started writing fanfiction and felt it would be useful to have the resources of the community to do it right. I have one story posted on Gurabite under the name "lawless" and am finishing another one I expect to post soon.

Being an lj newbie, when I first joined I looked at the GMM archive of memorable posts and friended people I saw posting there frequently whose comments didn't annoy me. I've since learned many journals are friend-locked and that you have to ask to be put on someone's friend list. Sorry about that.

Anyway, since I've friended you, you can see the parts of my journal that are friends only. If you want to know more about how my fascination with Gravitation arose and my lack of any previous interest in fanfiction, you should read my initial post.

My journal isn't completely friends-locked; I have lots of public posts, but I do not intend to ever post pictures of myself or my family on this site, so I'm not worried about the security aspects, and even friends don't know where in New Jersey I live.

Thanks for reading this. I hope to hear from you soon.

I looked over your journal and I do think I'd enjoy reading it on a regular basis. I'm really interested in how you got into manga via your daughter-- I've been considering going back to school to get education credentials and maybe teaching English to middle school/high school age students and I've always thought that manga (as well as American comics) could be a great tool for sucking in reluctant readers. I've also toyed with the idea of using fan fiction in the classroom.

It's been a while since I've written in the Gravitation fandom-- my interests tend to go in cycles and over the last year I've sort of moved away from anime and manga though I still following Nana and After School Nightmare and generally keep an eye out for potentially interesting series.

Hi there! I noticed in one of your comments you said you've 'moved away from anime/manga,' but I just wanted to let you know people are still enjoying your fics! Ah, the power of the written word, even ages after its been pulled from one souls mind and written down!

I enjoyed -immensely- the first story of Tohma and Suguru (Lessons). I'm going to go read the couple other ones in that chain as soon as I'm done posting here.

I noticed in your profile you mentioned, '...struggles with...an eating disorder.'

That hit me at a personal level too, since I have struggled with both anorexia as a pre-teen and a young teen and then bulimia as an older teen and right through to today, in my 30s. But you know, I proud of myself and all my little -no, they aren't little, they are amazing! ^_^- accomplishments. I sometimes find it hard to remind myself to be proud of things that I teach myself to do that are as natural as breathing to others, but take great thought and cognitive behavioural therapy on my part.

Anywoo! Now that I've bored you to tears -lol- please to be adding me to your journal? Do you have other writings for other anime/manga series?
Jun. 4th, 2009 11:38 pm (UTC)
Sorry it's taken me a couple of days to get back to you about this, I've been sort of bogged down by day to day life and have gotten behind checking and answering my e-mails. I'm really pleased that you liked "Lessons in Games" so much. It's one of those stories that I'm simultaneously ashamed of and proud of because it takes things to such extremes.

I've written fan fiction for a couple of other anime/manga series. Most of my full length stories are for Gravitation, Fruits Basket and Loveless but also there are a couple based on Tokyo Babylon/X1999, Yami no Matsuei and Revolutionary Girl Utena and I've written a drabble of two here and there for Simoun, The Rose of Versailles and Princess Tutu, After School Nightmare and Nana. As I mentioned, I haven't been really into any anime/manga series in a while for a couple reasons. First, I don't like reading downloaded manga on the computer. I did it for a while but I got to the point where I need the physical paper and ink book in my hand which makes things risky and expensive. Also, I think the relentless cuteness started to grate on me. Even a dark series like X1999 has teddy bears and ice cream right along with the swords exploding out of people. Right now, the only manga I'm really reading on a regular basis is Nana, though at some point I'd like to catch up on After School Nightmare. I am interested in Godchild, which one of my LJ friends likes quite a bit.

I'm 37 right now and I've been struggling with disordered eating for most of my life. Right now I'm within a normal weight range but I still have trouble with bulimia, occasional restrictive eating and obsessive calorie counting and exercise. In general I'm still very preoccupied with issues of food and body size and I should warn you I occasionally go into this in detail in my journal so if stuff like that is triggering for you proceed with caution.

Thank you for your interest in my fiction and my journal. I'm happy to have you as an LJ friend.

Have been reading your journal for a while and finally decided to comment
I have been reading your journal (not regularly, but off and on) for some time now (since last fall maybe? or perhaps it was last summer, can't remember exactly). I came to it through reading The Marriage of Murder and Suicide, which I was very, very, impressed by. And not only with the story itself, but the notes you had with it explaining what you intended to explore with the story and the kinds of concepts/ideas you were drawing upon. (If I am remembering what I read and what I thought about it correctly. I hope I'm not misremembering things and going on about something that you have no idea what I'm talking about. (I probably should have gone back and re-read what I'm commenting about before writing about it. Oh well.) Regardless of the accuracy of what I remember, it is true that I was quite impressed with the story and with other of your stories that I've read. And from reading some of your fics, I went on to reading your journal. It looks like you put a lot of thought into trying to figure out things you come across: that you keep poking, and prodding, and looking into, and worrying at, trying to make sense of things. Very similar to how I am, it seems. I very much like the way you really look into things and try to figure out what they are and how they may have come about. I haven't been reading your journal regularly, but I do have a strong pull to come back and read it when I am experiencing particular flavours of depression.

So, I was wondering if it would be OK to friend you? I have been rather fascinated with you (or perhaps more accurately with your writing and ideas and the beautiful aesthetic coherence of your journal (since I don't actually know you, yourself at all)) since first reading any of your writing, and the fascination has increased as I've read more.

You would be my first LJ friend if you agree. (I am aware of sounding rather like Luna Lovegood here, but oh well, she and I do share a good lot of personality and character traits).

A question. There are quite a few of your posts that I would like to comment to, but a lot of them are from several years ago ( before I knew of your journal and before I came onto LJ). Would it be ok to comment to posts a few years old? I don't know anything about LJ etiquette or unspoken but assumed social conventions and I always get ridiculously nervous about mis-stepping and inadvertently violating some sort of code and being perceived as rude (or something along those lines) for violating a code of behaviour that I didn't even realise existed. (I am well aware of the existence of these types of codes in any type of community, but have a hard time figuring out the ins and outs of the specifics of them. So I prefer to ask, when possible.)

I'm sorry if this is way too long and rambling. I had rather a bit to drink tonight. I have been meaning to write a comment to you for quite some time now and have finally got enough through my own barriers to do so.

I hope this what I'm writing isn't too weird and off (or bothersome). I really can't tell if it is or isn't.
